Itinerary

Day 1: Amarbayasgalant Monastery

Leave the hotel and drive west north for 350 km or 6 hours to the Amarbayasgalant Monastery. One of the 3 biggest Buddhist centers in Mongolia, survived from the red extremists destruction of the 1930's. We will pass by rolling hills and green pastures with herds of sheep, cattles and horses. We will stay in a ger camp.

Day 2: Khantay Community

Drive farther to the Hantay community of Bulgan province, near the protected mountains. 300 km driving or 5-6 hours. We will arrive at the ger camp, arranged by the local nomadic community. The hospitable local families will welcome us and introduce us to the area and facility. Today we will rest and enjoy nature away from crowds and cities.

Day 3: Khantay hiking and fishing

After breakfast, we will hike to the cliff along the river and visit a local family. We will get introduced to the nomadic lifestyle. We will eat local food and an optional activity is to have a small cooking class while participating in the cooking. Afternoon we will fish near the hiking trail.

In the evening we will come back to our camp and have dinner. Optional activity tonight is to have a bonfire and listen to the local people’s singing of folk songs.

Day 4: Khantay cultural experience

Today we will visit another family and experience authentic nomadic culture while participating in their daily activities including horseback riding, herding animals to open field, shooting bow and arrow and knuckle bones and many more.
Today we will try to retire early since tomorrow is a long day of driving.

Day 5: Lake Ugii

We will leave early in the morning and drive for 350 km but mostly off-road. So, we will drive for 8 hours and arrive at the lake side resort. We will swim and enjoy the ger resort resting.

Day 6: Karakorum and mini Gobi

Today we will drive for 1 hour and reach Karakorum, the ancient capital city of Mongolian Empire but today it is only the ruin. We will visit the museum and the second main Buddhist Monastery called Erdene Zuu. The monastery keeps some of the artifacts of the city. Then we will drive another 100 km and reach the mini Gobi called Elsen Tasarkhai. We will walk and ride two-humped camels and stay in a ger camp.

Day 7: Khustai National Park

Today we will drive 250 km or 3 hours and arrive at the Khustai National Park, where the takhi, wild horses are reintroduced. Also, this is the wildlife preserve for bighorn sheep, deer, wolves and foxes. Here we will explore and observe the naturally wild horses and visit a local family, who is a skilled man and loves to share his rich story with visitors. We will stay in a ger.

Day 8: Ulaanbaatar

In the morning we will head back to Ulaanbaatar and catch up on our city exploration. Visiting the Genghis Khan museum and Zaisan Hill, where there is the best panoramic view of the city.
