Experiences

For this great adventure we were picked up by our New Milestone Tour driver at a central location, there were 10 of us in our group. The two minivans were clean and very comfortable for the drive to the festival. The driver had minivans stocked with water and snacks, which was a nice touch. Ganbold "Teddy" and Solongo, met us at the central location to make sure we were all in cars headed for the festival and then they were at the entrance to the event, along with another guide, Uyanga, when we arrived. The event was truly Mongolian with the Eagle Hunters riding down the mountain on horse back with their eagles. We were able to get right next to each hunter and their eagle. The event was well organized and run well. New Milestone escorted us to the large ger where we were served a traditional Mongolia meal, with a pleasant twist for our vegetarian friends. After lunch and before the closing ceremony, Teddy took us all to the eagle hunter's gers and we were able to hold an eagle like a real eagle hunter - very cool. The folks at New Milestone travel knocked it out of the park. The weather was cold but bright blue skies and just a great event. If you find yourself in UB in March look up New Milestone Travel for the Eagle Festival, you will have a great day!

We went on a two day trip with my guide Adiyabold, first to see the statue of the great khan, and then to discover reproduction of the ancient camps of the mongol empire (12-13th century), to finish in Terelj national park. There we camped with an authentic nomad family and share their customs for a day. We went on to visit a Buddhist temple as well as ride a horse for a lovely tour. Adiyabold was a true champion for the two days, giving me so many details, on Mongolian lifestyle, being a translator as well as a guide, and doing all activities with me, including me all the way so that I could enjoy the experience fully. All the logistic was top notch and I am grateful to have chosen to make this trip with him and New Milestone Tours.

We asked New Milestone Tours for a personalized tour on the one day we had in Ulaanbataar before leaving on the Trans Siberian Express. We visited a Kazakh family in their beautiful yurt. Do not miss this! they made a Kazakh lunch for us and answered all our questions about their culture. We even tried on Kazakh clothing. As our New Milestone guide did not speak Kazakh, they even arranged for a local teacher to come and translate for us. After that, we visited a family with an extensive garden since I am very interested in gardening. Learned a lot about what it's like to garden in such a severe climate. The family made tea for us with homemade jam and cookies and again, answered all our questions about their family and culture. En route, we visited a roadside attraction to see golden eagles. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet two local families and experience such a friendly and welcoming culture. Our tour guide, Uurie, was excellent, spoke great English, and shared so much about Mongolia as well. I really want to go back and take their Gobi desert tour. Some day maybe! highly recommend this tour company. Excellent company, fast response, great guide, personalized tour.
